Genetic Challenge
The Genetic Challenge is an exciting event in which all BAA members can participate. The Genetic Challenge is a feeding and carcass contest sponsored by the Braunvieh Association of America. Members have the opportunity to promote and benchmark their programs while collecting genetic data. Data on Sires is contributed to the BAA carcass data base for developing carcass EPD’s. The Genetic Challenge can be a viable marketing option for your entire calf crop. Breeders are encouraged to contact and collectively work with their bull customers to have their programs represented. Participants with cattle ready for market in June will have the opportunity to enter animals in the Beef Empire Days Carcass Contest.
Recognition of top contest pens and top individuals from the entire Genetic Challenge will be reported in the Braunvieh World. Results are ranked in value and are a combination of feeding and harvest value.

Braunvieh Ear Tags
Breeders and commercial users of Braunvieh genetics should use the Braunvieh Tag
to identify Braunvieh sired calves. Astute cattle feeders and order buyers are
looking for easily identified Braunvieh influence calves and feeder cattle
to capitalize on their bred-in greater feedlot value. The packing industry’s
fed cattle buyers look for Braunvieh influence fed cattle with full knowledge
that the Braunvieh influence fed steer or heifer will defy the genetic
antagonisms between carcass marbling and yield grade.

Feeding Contests
The Braunvieh breed has been a major player at some of the nation's biggest and most prestigious feeding contests, such as the Great Western Beef Expo and Beef Empire Days. In 2009, Mike Long, Nick Long and Mike Traster, Braunvieh breeders from Kansas, swept the Beef Empire Steer Trial, by capturing 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in a field of 40. Any BAA member is welcome to submit entries to these contests and showcase their genetics. Contact the BAA Office for more information.
